Modal Auxiliaries

The modal auxiliaries (atau modals) meliputi:
can, could, may, might, must, should, will, would

• Modals selalu diikuti oleh bentuk dasar verb atau auxiliary verb.
• Bentuk modals yang selalu sama tidak peduli apa pun subjeknya.
• Standar bahasa Inggris Amerika, sebuah verba predikat kalimat tidak boleh mengandung lebih dari satu modal.

benar
He will be able to go.
tidak benar
He will can go.

Di bawah ini adalah contoh kalimat yang mengandung modal may dan verb go. Perhatikan bahwa bentuk modal tidak berubah. Juga perhatikan bahwa bentuk dasar verb atau auxiliary verb selalu mengikuti modal.
